To empower a new generation of lawyers committed to social justice we launch the Justice Leila Seth Fellowship (JLSF). Co-chaired by her children — Vikram, Shantum and Aradhana Seth, and with her friend and Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen as Patron, the  JLSF distinguishes the remarkable life and legacy of an advocate and judge.  A champion of human rights and an advocate for justice, her work inspired many lawyers to dedicate their careers to upholding these principles.

The 18 month Fellowship programme is informed by Justice Seth’s legacy and combines legal education, active litigation, and advocacy to change hearts and minds. Selected Fellows will work at iProbono’s Delhi office, with secondments to a partner organisation either in Delhi NCR or another location in India. This is a paid Fellowship, with professional development training and opportunities for legal interventions, along with access to professional networks. They will join a wider movement of lawyers committed to social justice.

Fellows will be recruited through a competitive selection process and judged on their demonstrated commitment to social justice, knowledge of the law or other, equally, compelling experience. The only required academic qualification is a degree in Law. Applicants do not need experience working in the human rights or social justice sector but must demonstrate a passion for these issues or our thematic areas of focus, which include gender equality, violence against women and children, trafficking, and discrimination against sexual and other minorities. Senior members of the iProbono team, including the South Asia Regional Director and the Advocacy Lead, will mentor the Fellows working with them to produce impactful research and policy papers for public dissemination.

Details of the Fellowship, the application process and more information about Justice Seth’s life are available on the JLSF website. The deadline to apply is 28 February 2021. Applicants can send queries to JLSF@i-probono.in.
